THE SCOTTISH SUN 🔵 I played once for Man Utd – now I live a very different life as an MUTV pundit

A FORMER Manchester United prodigy under Sir Alex Ferguson is now doing something very different for the club.

It was back in 1999 when Boran Djordjic moved to the Red Devils from Brommapojkarna in his homeland in Sweden for £1million aged 17.

It did not take long for the winger to shine in United’s youth set-up, scooping their academy player of the year award within 12 months.

He then caught the eye against Celtic in a testimonial for Hoops hero Tom Boyd in 2001 when he replaced Ryan Giggs and scored the second in 2-0 win with a brilliant chipped effort late on.

However, despite there being high hopes for him, Djordjic only made one Premier League appearance and a handful more in the cups for United.

He was sent for loan spells at Sheffield Wednesday, AGF and Red Star Belgrade before he moved permanently to Rangers in January 2005.

He did go on to help them to win the Scottish Premier League title but he left that summer.

Djordjic’s short term deal was not extended and he went on to represent a host of other clubs across the likes of Hungary, Belgium and India as well as stints at Plymouth Argyle and Blackpool, prior to his retirement in 2015.

However, these days he is back working for Manchester United as well as hitting the headlines again as a pundit.

Sweden’s former manager Janne Andersson stormed out of a live TV interview with him after accusing the ex-United ace of “talking c**p” following a 5-0 win over Azerbaijan in Euro 2024 qualifying last March.

Djordjic became a pundit for Viaplay in the mid-2000s and continues to work for the broadcaster as well as having also made appearances on MUTV – previously interviewing the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic for the club’s channel.

Now aged 42, he is a familiar face on the big screen and he has become known for never being afraid to speak his mind.

Man Utd fans love ‘dope’ Stone Roses kit but ask ‘WTF is Garnacho doing?’

He said: “I think people perceive me as outspoken, and I want them to do so.

“Being outspoken can’t be negative, those who don’t like me can turn up the volume and maybe they’ll learn something.

“Anyone who has a passion for sport, and has a team that they hold dear, knows that their life is enriched. I grew up as a football supporter, and those colours don’t disappear in the box.

“I want to convey the passion I feel – it may seem exaggerated in some eyes, but it is genuine.

“It’s hard to hide the emotional person even if you have an expensive suit, because if I hide the feelings it eats me up inside and then I lose myself.”
