THE SCOTTISH SUN 🔵 Ex-Gers manager target keeping tabs on Ibrox despite title decider this weekend
KEVIN MUSCAT went the distance in the bid to be Rangers manager 12 months ago – only to lose out to Philippe Clement in the home straight.
And now Muscat’s fellow Aussie Craig Moore has assured the club’s fans that his pal IS still keeping across the dramatic events in Glasgow this week, even despite the prospect of a league decider in China this weekend.
With one game to go, Muscat’s Shanghai Port need only a win on Saturday to make it the Aussie’s third top flight title.
Moore’s fellow Go Radio pundit Stephen McGinn said: « You’re playing to win a league on Saturday, that is your universe, he might not know Rangers have lost. »
But the former Rangers defender was quick to point out the contrary, saying: « Oh he does! »
Havin said all that, Moore reckons that the time for Rangers to have captured Muscat was most likely BEFORE he moved to Shanghai Port.

That’s because he’s already working with big money players out in China such as former Chelsea star Oscar – and earning big money.
Whether Rangers would still be able to match those ambitions remains to be seen – but there’s certainly no shortage of interest in Muscat in goings on at the club where he played under Alex McLeish.
Moore added: « If he wins that it would be his third title.
« But the timing for Kevin [to go to Rangers] in my opinion was when he was going head to head with Philippe Clement for the job.
« Now I’m not sure this is the right timing.
« He’s dealing with a player like Oscar, world class, in the Chinese Super League, the teams have five foreigners who make a huge difference to the first eleven.
« But he knows how to read the room and manage at the very very top.
« It’s huge money out there. But what Kevin potentially would have been able to bring to the table is the Asian market and it’s a bigger market than people probably think. »
After being appointed at Shanghai Port, Muscat said: “There were two or three opportunities throughout the season where I was contacted about certain clubs.
« There was only really one who I did speak to and the rest I didn’t speak to because I was invested in trying to win a championship. Then towards the last couple of games, this opportunity arose. »
