Former Hoops and Scotland standout Charlie is making his way as a coach these days after retiring from the sport last summer.

He accepted a post as Hamilton Accies’ Under-18s coach this season – after being linked with a similar role at Celtic.

That’s after his 16-year-old son Joshua was one of a number of players to pen their first pro contracts with his former club in June.

Two-time Celt Charlie – who also had spells with Aberdeen, Wolves, Blackburn and Dundee United – is proud of his son’s achievements, re-sharing the traditional contract signing pics on Instagram back in June with the words: « Proud of you Joshua Mulgrew ».

Dad Charlie last week relived the episode where bra tycoon Michelle Mone took him to task for what she said was child neglect as Joshua slept in the car in the Costco car park.

Speaking on the latest edition of the Let’s Be Frank podcast with Hoops hero Frank McAvennie and host Simon Houston, he said: “It was mad. It was a week before Christmas, we drove to Costco.

“The backstory – my wife had my son, who’s now, funny enough, full time at Celtic.

« He’s just went full time in the summer there. She’d been out with him during the day, he was tired, we had people coming to us for Christmas.

“We went to Costco and as we arrived, he fell asleep in the car.

“So I was like, ‘Do we take him in here?’

“I just ended up running in and out. »
