THE SCOTTISH SUN 🔵 Celtic hero Matt O’Riley spotted on paradise holiday with stunning Wag

MATT O’Riley is making light of his Euro 2024 snub, by taking a break from the action on a romantic summer holiday with his girlfriend.

The Celtic star was left out of Kasper Hjulmand’s 26-man squad, with the Denmark selecting Premier League veterans Christian Eriksen and Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg in his place.

However, instead of sulking about it, O’Riley has decided to make the most of an extended break from the action.

He and his girlfriend have jetted off to South Asia for a break in the sun and the sand of the Maldives.

O’Riley took shared photos of the couple enjoying the wonderful weather on his Instagram account with the caption: « Oh my Maldives. »

Celtic fans voiced their opinions on the Danes future, and Euros omission.

Whilst O’Riley is away enjoying the blistering heat, his international teammates prepare to do battle in – the slightly less sunny – Stuttgart in their opening Group C match with Slovenia.

O’Riley made his international debut in November 2023, in a 2-0 Euro qualifying loss to Northern Ireland, in Belfast.

He made 37 league appearances for Brendan Rodgers’ side this season, chipping in with 18 goals, and 13 assists as Celtic secured their third title on the bounce.

Celtic held off on selling O’Riley in the January transfer window, after heavy interest from Spanish giants Atletico Madrid.

And this summer, Celtic will have to fend off plenty of interest from Europe if they are to hold on to their star man.

Former Hoops boss Neil Lennon said earlier this week that it is « inevitable » that the Dane will leave the club this summer, amid rumours of a summer move to Spain, with Italian side Roma believed to have also shown an interest in the player according to reports.
