SPORTS PRO 🔵 Gary Lineker’s The Rest is Football podcast goes to Netflix for 2026 World Cup

- The Rest is Football was previously shown on DAZN during the Club World Cup
- Netflix to produce audio version of podcast for major platforms
Netflix has agreed to distribute The Rest is Football, the soccer podcast produced by Gary Lineker’s Goalhanger production company, during next year’s Fifa World Cup in North America.
Daily video episodes of the podcast, which is presented by Lineker and features former England internationals Alan Shearer and Micah Richards, will be filmed in New York and released by the streaming service.
The show will feature game analysis, special guests, interviews and insights into the World Cup, with reporters across the tournament to also dial in to the programme. WME represented Goalhanger in negotiations with Netflix.
“We can’t wait to bring The Rest Is Football to Netflix for the 2026 World Cup,” Lineker said. “It’s a fantastic opportunity for the three of us to do what we love — talk football every day — but on a truly global stage. Expect all the usual analysis, honesty and plenty of laughs… just with a few more cameras pointed at us, all from the Big Apple. “
Goalhanger had previously teamed up with DAZN to produce an enhanced version of the podcast during this year’s Club World Cup. The collaboration came after the programme’s distribution deal with BBC Sounds had come to an end, as a result of Lineker parting ways with the BBC.
The podcast also holds the rights to LaLiga’s clips and highlights, with Lineker fronting a video-first LaLiga edition of the podcast each week.
Netflix noted that it would still distribute an audio version of the podcast on major audio platforms like Spotify and Apple Podcasts during the World Cup. Unlike DAZN, it does not hold the rights to live footage from the World Cup. It has however secured the US rights to the 2027 and 2031 Women’s World Cup in the US and Canada.
In October, the streaming service agreed to add a number of sports video podcasts produced by Spotify and The Ringer to its content offering. The deal includes the upcoming addition of The Bill Simmons Podcast, The Zack Lowe Show and The Mismatch, which will feature on Netflix in early 2026.
