[GOOGLE NEWS FOOT UK] 🔵 Watford: The Hornets need to cash in on Ashley Fletcher in the next transfer window

Watford will see Ashley Fletcher return from his loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday this summer.

Watford loaned the striker to their fellow Championship club last July to get some game time under his belt.

Fletcher, 28, has struggled for goals at Hillsborough and hasn’t found the net in 28 appearances.

The Hornets have a decision to make regarding his future this summer and most signs point towards him heading out the exit door again.

Watford have decision to make

Fletcher has fallen down the pecking order at Watford and cutting ties with him on a permanent basis in the next transfer window would be a shrewd move.

Finding him a new club would suit all parties involved and it would free up space and funds in the Hornets’ squad for whoever they bring in as their new boss. Tom Cleverley is in interim charge following Valerien Ismael’s sacking.

Before his exit to Sheffield Wednesday, he had temporary spells away from his parent club at New York Red Bulls and Wigan Athletic.

The Yorkshireman rose up through the ranks at Manchester United but was signed by West Ham United as a youngster after a loan stint at Barnsley.

He played 20 times for the Hammers, scoring once, before having a four year spell at Middlesbrough before his switch to Watford.

Fletcher needs to lay down some roots somewhere and has been a bit of a journeyman so far in his career.

His form has been poor this term and it is unlikely that he will break into the Hornets’ team in the next campaign so selling him would be a sensible decision, despite him being under contract until 2026.

Watford are unbeaten since Cleverley took over and are back in action on Saturday at home to Preston North End.
