[GOOGLE NEWS FOOT UK] 🔵 Southampton receive fresh offer for striker which includes unique incentive

Southampton have received an offer of €2.5million from Trabzonspor to re-sign Paul Onuachu on loan, as per Sabah.

Southampton are preparing their squad for life back in the Premier League.

The Saints achieved promotion last month via the play-offs and Russell Martin’s side now have to make the step up to the top flight.

Summer recruitment is key for any side hoping to establish themselves from the Championship in the Premier League, and for Southampton it has already been a busy few weeks.

One man linked with a move away from the club is Onuachu. The 30-year-old striker spent last season on loan in Turkey, scoring 15 goals in 21 league games for Trabzonspor.

Trabzonspor are keen on getting the experienced goalscorer back to the club this summer, but reports earlier in the week suggests Southampton were demanding too much.

Now though, a fresh update suggests the Turkish outfit have made a loan offer for the striker, including a fee of €2.5m with an obligation to buy also being discussed.

It goes onto say Trabzonspor are willing to let one of their players join Southampton’s sister club Goztepe who have just won promotion to Turkey’s top tier as an added incentive to strike a deal.

A unique offer

Trabzonspor clearly rate Onuachu highly and they seem to be thinking outside the box to find a way to reach an agreement with the Saints this season.

Onuachu doesn’t appear to be in Martin’s plans this season and therefore it would be best for both the club and player to part ways this summer. However, Southampton will be keen to bring in as much money as they can for their man.

It remains to be seen whether the Saints will accept this proposal, but it seems it is a matter of when and not if Onuachu will leave this summer.

A tough season ahead

The first year back in the top tier is never easy for any club. A lot of work has to go into the summer beforehand and even then sometimes things just don’t fall your way.

Last season saw all three of the newly-promoted teams immediately relegated back down and whilst that seems to be unlikely to happen again, there is a chance they will be involved in some form of relegation battle.

Martin is yet to experience Premier League football as a manager, but he has done well to climb the leagues so far as a coach and fans will be optimistic he can once again do the same thing.

But, there is a chance the team’s style will need adapting and as witnessed last season, failure to adapt can soon lead to your club being cut adrift at the bottom.
