[GOOGLE NEWS FOOT UK] 🔵 Norwich City Boss Set To Make Decision On Attacker

A deal for Norwich City striker Adam Idah to join Celtic has hit a stumbling block, with Football Insider reporting that the new Canaries boss Johannes Hoff Thorup wants to look at the 23-year-old in pre-season before deciding on his future.

The Republic of Ireland international spent the second half of last season north of the border where he impressed at Celtic Park, scoring nine times and grabbing two assists as Celtic won their third consecutive Scottish Premiership title. The Hoops also lifted the Scottish Cup, beating arch-rivals Rangers at Hampden Park, with Idah scoring the winner right at the death.

ÂŁ3 Million Norwich City Deal Could Be Moving Closer

New Norwich manager Hoff Thorup, appointed in May after a spell at Danish club Nordsjaelland, is said to be keen to look at Idah in training before any decision on the striker’s future is made. However, Idah is said to be a top target for Brendan Rodgers’ team as they look to retain the Scottish Premiership and face another European campaign.

Celtic are reportedly keen to get their recruitment done early this summer to firm up their plans for the current season, and Football Insider are reporting that the Glasgow giants won’t wait forever for the Championship side to decide on Idah’s fate.

The striker, rated at ÂŁ3.5 million by Transfermarkt, made his debut at Carrow Road in 2019 under current Leeds United boss Daniel Farke. He has since made 115 appearances for the Norfolk outfit, scoring on 19 occasions across both the Championship and the Premier League.

Idah, who has 25 caps for the Republic of Ireland, with four goals, is under contract at Norwich City until the summer of 2028 so any deal is likely to command a reasonable fee. With the Canaries having finished sixth in the Championship last year, losing to Leeds in the play-offs, Hoff Thorup will be looking to build on previous boss David Wagner’s work and take the club back to the Premier League after their relegation from the top-flight in 2022. Whether Idah will be part of those attempts, however, remains to be seen.

Norwich City will be looking to build on a disappointing couple of campaigns following their relegation to the second tier, and with a new boss in Hoff Thorup and sporting director in Ben Knapper, a new era is afoot at Carrow Road. With last season’s top scorer, Josh Sargent, linked with a move away from Norfolk, keeping Idah around may be the key to maintaining a goal threat should the American leave.

That being said, the chance to win titles and play in Europe may prove to be too strong of a pull for Idah, so Norwich City may have a fight on their hands should Thorup decide he wants the Irishman around at the club.
