[GOOGLE NEWS FOOT UK] 🔵 Aston Villa’s next six Premier League fixtures compared to Tottenham and Man Utd

Aston Villa suffered a minor dent to their Champions League hopes with defeat away from home against reigning Premier League champions Manchester City.

Unai Emery making a significant number of starting XI changes presented the clash, which Villa were huge underdogs for, as somewhat of a free hit. However, his side competed very well in the first half with Jhon Duran finishing a superb move to cancel out Rodri’s opener.

Just as Villa looked to be heading into the break level, Phil Foden scored a free-kick with Robin Olsen, in for Emiliano Martinez who missed the game because off illness, unsighted as the ball flew through a gap left in the wall. While his opener was somewhat fortunate, Foden was unplayable in the second half as the England international completed his hat-trick with two stunning left-footed strikes.

On the bright side for Villa, Champions League rivals Spurs were only able to draw with West Ham and United face the challenge of heading to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea on Thursday.

With Spurs dropping points and United still to play, BirminghamLive brings you Villa’s next six fixtures in the league as well as those of their top four rivals.

Brentford (H) – Saturday, April 6

Up next for Villa is a home clash against Brentford with Unai Emery likely hopeful Ollie Watkins is fit to feature after he grabbed the winner in the reverse fixture.

With Villa pushing for a Champions League qualification spot, securing all three points in this game is a necessity especially after the 4-1 defeat at Etihad Stadium.

Arsenal (A) – Sunday, April 14

Just 11 days on from facing Manchester City away from home, Emery takes his side to Emirates Stadium to take on another title challenger in Arsenal.

The Aston Villa boss was sacked from his position with the Gunners in November 2019 and he will therefore likely be desperate to secure a positive result.

Bournemouth (H) – Sunday, April 21

At the end of April an in-form Bournemouth side head to Villa Park. A string of wins has seen the Cherries emerge as surprise European contenders and they will certainly pose a challenge for Emery and his players.

Watkins netted a late equaliser to snatch a point from the reverse fixture at Vitality Stadium but this time round Villa will undoubtedly be pushing for all three.

Chelsea (H) – Saturday, April 28

Another home clash comes the following week with Chelsea as the visitors. The reverse fixture in the Premier League was won by Villa, however the Blues secured an unlikely 3-1 victory in an FA Cup replay at Villa Park which will likely mean Emery’s side are out for revenge.

Chelsea have been extremely inconsistent this season but they are still in with a chance of qualifying to play European football next season and that will certainly make it a challenging fixture for the hosts.

Brighton (A) – Saturday, May 4

Despite Brighton’s mixed form this season, the Amex is not the easiest place to visit especially during the run-in. However Villa will certainly take confidence from the reverse fixture where they smashed the Seagulls 6-1 with Watkins grabbing a hat-trick.

On the other hand, Roberto De Zerbi’s side will be aiming for the ultimate revenge after their humiliation in the Midlands.

Liverpool (H) – Saturday, May 11

With just a few weeks of the season to go, Villa taking on Liverpool could have major ramifications. Jurgen Klopp’s side will likely still be in the midst of a brutal title race while Villa push to play Champions League football.

The Reds dominated Emery’s team in the clash at Anfield last year but playing at Villa Park presents an entirely different challenge for Liverpool.
