[GOOGLE NEWS FOOT UK] 🔵 Aston Villa Midfielder Secures Move Away

Premier League Aston Villa have agreed a deal with League One side Shrewsbury Town that will see one of their academy stars heading out on loan for the 24/25 season.

An agreement has been reached between all parties with the move expected to be agreed soon. The player will become Salop’s fifth signing of the summer following the additions of Harrison Biggins, Toto Nsiala, George Lloyd and Toby Savin

Tommi O’Reilly only agreed a contract extension in January, extending his stay with the Villans until 2028, but will now spend next season in League One, according to Football Insider.

The midfielder is an academy product, who was handed a first team appearance last season in the club’s final Europa Conference League group stage game against HSK Zrinjski Mostar, but spent the latter half of the season on loan with Aston Villa’s sister club Real Union Club in the third-tier of Spanish football.

Will the Aston Villa man aid Shrewsbury’s League One campaign?

Shrewsbury had an underwhelming 23/24 season, they only narrowly fended off relegation to the fourth tier on the final day after finishing 19th and have seen their squad picked apart already this summer.

Talented midfielder Tom Bayliss has already moved to League One rivals Lincoln City, after the 25-year-old played a key role making over 40 appearances in all competitions.

Many of their competitors are also strengthening, with the promoted duo of Stockport and Wrexham spending big to ensure that they are prepared to go again in a higher league.

Tommi O’Reilly is largely unproven, he may have the talent but whether later in the season, if Shrewsbury get pulled into another League One relegation battle he will have the mental strength and fortitude needed to keep going in difficult circumstances remains to be seen.

A quality addition, but I don’t think it is enough for pundits to start predicting a better season.
