Everton have had a tough season so far and it was no surprise to see Sean Dyche dismissed from his job as manager at the start of 2025 with his side sitting just one point above the relegation zone.
While the Toffees had picked up some good points along the way, with some thanks to their defensive solidity, a lack of goalscoring ability left them in a precarious position.
Since the return of David Moyes as the Blues boss, things have been looking up at Goodison Park with three wins in four games, putting them six points above the relegation zone.
However, although things are looking more optimistic now, supporters probably won’t be glad to hear that their side were involved in a VAR mistake in the campaign so far [Liverpool Echo, 5 February].
Despite Beto’s claim for a penalty in his side’s 4-0 win against Leicester on Saturday (1 February) sparking debate, this was not involved in the list.

However, Christian Norgaard’s red card for Brentford against the Toffees was deemed to be a mistake, supporting why it was overturned after the game.
The number of missed interventions from VAR have not been disclosed.
VAR could play it’s part in Everton’s relegation battle
Although, in this instance, the VAR decision didn’t go against Everton, they did only draw the game 0-0 and it certainly didn’t allow them to win the game either.

Furthermore, the Blues could well be involved in some of the decisions where VAR didn’t intervene, which will leave plenty of supporters questioning whether they have been hard done by a ridiculous decision this term.
It’s not the first time the Merseyside outfit have been involved in a contentious decision either and with VAR defending their decision not to award Beto a penalty against Leicester, there are plenty of questions over how reliable their own admissions are too.

Luckily for Everton, if they continue in their current form, then they look likely to save themselves under the management of Moyes this term which should secure their Premier League spot without taking it down to the final day.
However, there will surely be more controversies with VAR before the end of the campaign which could have a big impact in who finds themselves becoming a second tier side next term.
