Victor Anichebe has reacted to the news that David Moyes has returned for his second stint at Everton.
The Friedkin Group ended Sean Dyche’s two-year spell on Merseyside on Thursday (9 January) and wasted no time in appointing his successor, with Moyes signing a two-and-a-half-year contract on Saturday (11 January).
While the appointment will lead to split opinion among the supporters, Anichebe, who achieved cult-hero status at the Blues under Moyes, shared his instant reaction to the news via Instagram (11 January).
He simply said: “Gaffer is back.”

For the most part, it is all smiles at Goodison Park.
Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman took interim charge of the Blues and secured passage to the FA Cup fourth round after a 2-0 win against Peterborough United.

TFG’s decision to sack Dyche only hours before the tie led to mass confusion, with the players arriving at Goodison Park expecting to be met by the boss only to learn he will no longer take the reigns on Merseyside.
It is a disservice to Dyche and his efforts throughout the past three seasons, steering Everton away from relegation scraps time and time again.

He should be remembered for his hard work at Goodison Park despite the fan approval towards the end of his tenure and should have been allowed to leave the Toffees in a more dignified manner.
Regardless, TFG clearly knows what they are doing and worked fast to secure a swift appointment and end all growing anxiety on Merseyside as Everton prepares for another fight for survival in the Premier League.
Moyes secured nine top-half finishes throughout his initial 11-year spell at the Toffees and is more than capable of securing another comfortable top-flight finish before the long-awaited move to Bramley-Moore Dock.
However, after his Europa Conference League triumph with West Ham United, he could be expected to return the Blues to European competition with the backing of TFG – for now, he must focus on surviving the drop.
