Sean Dyche made Everton fans “sick and tired” of the football they were witnessing before he was replaced by David Moyes, Paul Robinson has said.
The former England goalkeeper, speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live (11 January, 19:31), admitted the defeat at Bournemouth on 4 January was the final straw for many supporters after failing to register a shot on goal.
Dyche had steered the club to Premier League survival in the past two seasons but has now faced the chop by The Friedkin Group with six months of his contract remaining.
“He’s had to deal with adversity,” Robinson admitted.
“But you can understand the Everton supporters with the style of football. They went all the way down to Bournemouth and didn’t have a single shot on target; the inability to score goals.
MORE TOFFEES STORIES
“They had defensive stability but [the fans] got sick and tired of the style of football they were watching.”
David Moyes returns in long-term Everton project
It was under Moyes that Everton last sustained regular appearances in European competition, which is clearly the ultimate aim for the Friedkins following their takeover.
While Dyche was a specialist in guiding the Toffees to survival, the ownership obviously want more, with the club sitting just a solitary point above the drop zone.

Moyes proved his European acumen is still intact with the 2023 triumph of the Conference League with West Ham United, who have gone backwards since his departure; Julen Lopetegui, his replacement, was sacked the day before Dyche.
The 61-year-old was not interested in acting as a temporary solution for this season, he wanted longer-term assurances and has signed a multi-year contract back on Merseyside.
Everton are highly likely to be settling in at Bramley-Moore Dock with Moyes at the helm – something which seemed beyond the realms of possibility when he left to step into Sir Alex Ferguson’s shoes at Manchester United in 2013, bringing to an end his initial 11-year innings.
