GOODISON NEWS 🔵 Newcastle among several options as Everton star will have opportunities to leave – report

Dominic Calvert-Lewin will have opportunities to leave Everton if he wants to as a host of clubs are watching his situation closely, according to TEAMtalk.

A report from the outlet’s website on 31 October said that The Friedkin Group are set to conduct a full-scale review of the club once their takeover is complete with expiring players’ contracts a major element of that.

Calvert-Lewin is the biggest name from a group numbering in double-figures who have permanent or loan deals set to run out in the summer, and while a lucrative offer has been extended to him he still hasn’t signed it.

It is reportedly not in doubt that he will have options to sign elsewhere if he doesn’t commit to the Toffees, with Newcastle named as “keeping close tabs” on his situation but “several” others across England and Europe also in the frame.

TEAMtalk had previously reported on 24 October that the Englishman was open to considering rival offers he might get.

The Friedkin Group to takeover Everton with many questions

Calvert-Lewin’s future doesn’t look likely to be settled imminently if the announcement of Dan Friedkin’s agreement with Farhad Moshiri hasn’t got an extension signed.

It appears that major step forward with the ownership question at least got his attention again after he reportedly refused to even discuss the situation last month [i News, 4 October], likely before the takeover breakthrough.

But it may be that the lucrative deal that he has seemingly now refused to commit to [Mirror, 26 October] is the same one that was on the table during the summer transfer window [BBC Sport, 30 May], and with the uncertainty at the top thought to be a major factor at that point [The Times, 19 July] there surely won’t be answers at least until Friedkin is in.

Sean Dyche seemingly made clear that a January exit isn’t on the cards, but the manager probably doesn’t have the authority to make that decision, and with Juventus [Corriere dello Sport, 13 October] and Besiktas [Fotomac, 26 October] both linked recently a deal could be struck in the New Year with either.

Everton buyer Dan Friedkin
Dan Friedkin is set to buy Everton from Farhad Moshiri.

Calvert-Lewin, 27, has admitted to club media [as per the Liverpool Echo on 29 October] he has eyes on becoming the club’s leading Premier League scorer, but if he intends to surpass Romelu Lukaku before the end of his current deal he needs to get a major move on as he is still 13 behind after just two so far this term.

Newcastle held talks with him last summer when Yakuba Minteh might have come the opposite direction but the deal fell through, while Chelsea are another potential Premier League destination if he makes it that far [GiveMeSport, 15 October].

Whether the striker is waiting for certainty from the takeover or whether he is holding out to test the market will become much clearer once Moshiri’s exit is confirmed and Friedkin’s work is underway.

The club have reportedly attempted to sell the vision of a new dawn under the American in order to get a contract signed, but it clearly hasn’t worked ahead of his arrival.

In other Everton news, Dyche could now be set for a long-term stay in charge of the club after the takeover is completed.
