Everton are not on the verge of signing Ernest Nuamah from Lyon contrary to reports, according to Hugo Guillemet.
Foot Mercato previously reported that Nuamah is just “one step away” from joining the Toffees with an agreement between them and Lyon close, but the L’Equipe journalist revealed via his personal X account (11 January) that the news is wide of the mark.
Guillemet added that the Merseyside-based club are yet to follow up their interest in the Ghana international, who is also wanted by other Premier League clubs, with an offer, let alone strike an agreement, having just announced David Moyes as their new manager.

Everton’s interest in Nuamah is not new as they were credited with an interest in signing the 21-year-old in the summer.

With Jack Harrison and Jesper Lindstrom’s performances leaving much to be desired, the Premier League have rekindled their interest in Nuamah.
While Foot Mercato’s report appears to have been premature, it would not be a surprise if Everton struck a deal soon as their interest appears to be genuine.
It is worth noting that Pierre Sage dropped Nuamah to the bench for Lyon’s Ligue 1 clash with Brest on Saturday (11 January) despite the attacker starting in each of their previous two league games.

It suggests that a transfer could be on the cards for Nuamah during the ongoing transfer window.
