GOODISON NEWS 🔵 Everton receive Amadou Onana transfer update from Arsenal

Everton midfielder Amadou Onana does not feature in Arsenal’s direct transfer plans this summer, according to The Athletic.

The Athletic’s James McNicholas revealed in an Arsenal transfer roundup (11 June) that a move for Onana is “not in the works” in the upcoming window, though he is a player admired by the Gunners.

Onana is one of several players to have been linked with a summer transfer away from Goodison Park, as the Toffees look to balance their precarious financial books [HITC].

Arsenal were one of the clubs mooted with paying a roughly £50million fee for the Belgian in the coming months, but The Athletic’s report appears to have ruled them out of the immediate running to sign him.

Everton’s squad may look completely different to its current iteration at the start of next season, with several high-value players tipped to make a move as monetary pressures bite on Merseyside [Liverpool World].

Jarrad Branthwaite, Jordan Pickford and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have also been mooted to head elsewhere, but the Toffees are reportedly more intent on retaining the England trio over keeping Onana.

The midfielder seems keen on a move too, having told outlet Het Laatste Nieuws that he wants to “present himself” to Europe’s elite clubs at Euro 2024 with Belgium.

Amadou Onana featured for Everton at Arsenal on the final day of the Premier League season.

Cut-price replacements for the Blues’ number eight have also been identified by the club [Alan Nixon], as have other, more expensive targets in his position, but it’s unlikely any will arrive without Onana first departing [Record].

In Everton’s battle to overcome the financial difficulties which saw them docked points for two FFP breaches last season, it may be the transfer of Onana which alleviates the most pressure.
