DAILY RECORD 🔵 Scotland fans ask Rodri for a favour and tell arch nemesis you’re not a plonker

Scotland fans across the country are pleading with former arch-nemesis Rodri to do them a massive favour against England in the Euro 2024 final this Sunday.

The Spain superstar was taunted and ridiculed by the Tartan Army following his furious reaction to his national side’s 2-0 qualifying defeat at Hampden in March of last year, with the 27-year-old insisting Steve Clarke and his men played ‘rubbish football’ and accusing those in navy blue of falling over to run down the clock.

Scotland fans revelled in the Man City man’s furious reaction following the famous victory but feelings towards Rodri north of the border have definitely taken a twist following England’s win over the Netherlands in Dortmund last night. Gareth Southgate and the Auld Enemy are just 90 minutes away from winning their first-ever European Championship, and the only thing standing in their way? A date with Rodri’s Spain in Berlin.

Needless to say, Scotland fans have been showing contrition towards their old foe, with Rodri apologies even trending on X across the country on Thursday morning.

One Scotland fan wrote: ‘Rodri on Sunday with the chance to complete the greatest redemption arc of all time, from figure of mockery in Scotland to freedom of the country if Spain triumph. Always said he was a great bloke.’

Another added: ‘Rodri, you have the chance to be forgiven in Scotland. Do the right thing.’

While SNP MP Steven Flynn concluded: ‘Rodri. You were right. The grass was too long at Hampden. We accept that now. It won’t happen again. Just don’t let us down. Yours, Scotland.’

Rodri and his Spanish cohorts take on England in Berlin looking for their fourth triumph at the Euros, having won the competition in 1964, 2008 and 2012.
