DAILY RECORD 🔵 Fabio Silva proves Rangers parting shot right as ‘revelation of the season’ stuns Barcelona
Flop loanee Fabio Silva has been proven right about one of his post Rangers predictions as he netted a crucial goal for Las Palmas against Barcelona.
The Portuguese forward spent the second half of last season at Ibrox on loan from Wolves, scoring six times in 25 matches in all competitions. The 22-year-old – who cost the Premier League side £35million when they signed him from Porto in 2020 – has struggled to show his best form since the big money move to Molineux but now appears to be finally finding his feet in La Liga.
After signing for his new side, Silva rewrote his time in the Scottish Premiership as he branded the six month stint at Ibrox a success – as he insisted the switch to Gran Canaria would allow him to prove himself against the worlds best. Speaking at his Las Palmas unveiling, he said: « I was in Scotland last year and now I’m going to La Liga. I think I’ve succeeded. I’ve taken a step forward and I’m going to play against the best players in the world.
« My transfer fee is something that’s in the past. I didn’t force the club to pay that amount for me. I just did my job, as I always do. I’m 22 years old and I feel like I’ve done things well. »
And he stunned the Spanish league leaders with an inch-perfect strike. The Portugal cap netted the crucial goal as he shrugged off the attention of Pau Cubarsí to put the ball beyond Iñaki Peña Sotorres and find the bottom corner. The Premier Sports commentators were quick to hype up his form – branding him the « revelation of the season » so far.
