DAILY RECORD 🔵 Ally McCoist squeezes in Celtic verdict ahead of OBE ceremony

He may be set to rub shoulders with royalty, but Ally McCoist still had time to offer his tuppence worth on Celtic’s Champions League annihilation.

The Rangers legend is being honoured at Windsor Castle with an OBE for services to football and broadcasting. The leading Rangers goalscorer could be shaking hands with the man whose portrait now has pride of place in the Ibrox dressing room, although McCoist isn’t sure if it will be King Charles III or another member of the Royal Family who will be on duty to hand out the gongs.

And while he’s been briefed on the dos and don’ts of meeting the elite, McCoist still had time to ring into talkSport to chew over Celtic’s 7-1 Champions League defeat with old pal Alan Brazil. But rather than lord it over his colleague, McCoist was simply left scunnered with the state of Scottish football after our champions were taken apart with ease by a side who are currently the fifth best in Germany.

« I did speak to my big pal before the game and we weren’t too confident, I must admit, » he said. « What a place that is to play and go and watch football though. It’s one of the toughest places. You mentioned Anfield and Dortmund would come into that as well. We played there a couple of times back in the day and got a couple of draws.

« A brilliant place to play but really really difficult. I just feel more that it’s a blow for Scottish football, in all seriousness. You look at Scottish football and dear me, it’s clearly not what it once was. »
