DAILY RECORD 🔵 Aberdeen issue Rangers fixture update amid Storm Goretti havoc as fans given travel warning

It’s set to be bitterly cold afternoon at Pittodrie with windy and icy conditions causing chaos for fans

Aberdeen have warned supporters travelling to and from Pittodrie in this afternoon’s clash with Rangers that they are making the trip of their own volition.

The Granite City continues to be battered by Storm Goretti and has been hit with huge amounts of snowfall in the last week, causing schools and businesses to shut. Much of the snow has been cleared by heavy rainfall, but high winds, low temperatures and icy conditions have now taken over with just hours to go until the 4.30pm kick-off.

Danny Rohl takes his high-flying Gers north to face the manager-less Dons, just days after claiming a 2-0 win against the same opposition at Ibrox. The Light Blues have dropped back down to third place in the Premiership following Celtic’s 4-0 victory over Dundee United on Saturday but head to Pittodrie in search of a fifth straight league win.

The Reds on the other hand are on a three-match losing streak in the Premiership that has seen them slip down to eighth in the league standings. They are continuing their search for Jimmy Thelin’s replacement in the dugout, with Record Sport revealing that former Hamburg and Koln boss Markus Gisdol is interested in the vacancy.

And while the club say they are working around the clock at Pittodrie to ensure safe passage for fans for today’s huge clash, they are warning supporters they are making the trip at their own risk.

An Aberdeen statement read: « Supporters attending Sunday’s match are advised to take note of the forecasted yellow and amber weather warnings in place across Scotland, including snow, ice, strong winds and very low temperatures. While extensive work is ongoing in and around Pittodrie Stadium and surrounding streets, some conditions may remain challenging, particularly earlier in the day.

« All supporters are asked to make their own personal risk assessment when travelling to and from the stadium. Factors to consider include individual driving experience and how safe it is to leave your local area, personal health and fitness, and the potential impact of severe cold combined with high wind gusts.

« First Bus and Stagecoach are currently operating most services, however some routes may be affected. Supporters are strongly encouraged to check directly with their transport provider before travelling and to allow extra time where possible. The Club will continue to monitor conditions closely and provide further updates should circumstances change. »
