Harry Kane was forced off injured during the first half of Bayern Munich’s clash with Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.
Despite Bayern controlling much of the early portion of the game, Jamie Gittins fired Dortmund ahead against the run of play, with the England youth international opening the scoring after 27 minutes in Der Klassiker.
Just minutes later Kane went down off the ball and could be seen clutching his left leg with the severity of the issue immediately apparent as he signalled over Bayern’s medical staff.
Thomas Muller at the Signal Iduna Park.
Kane’s condition will of huge concern to Bayern boss Vincent Kompany, as the Belgian looks to return Die Roten back to the top of German football in his first season in charge in Bavaria.
After being named Bundesliga top scorer in his first campaign at the club, Kane has picked up right where he left off this season.
In 11 league appearances leading up to Saturday’s showdown, Kane had netted 14 goals and added seven assists.
The 31-year-old has proven similarly prolific in Europe, with five goals from five starts in the Champions League as Bayern sit in 13th place in the competition’s revamped league format.
Another interested observer with regards to the severity of Kane’s injury will no doubt be incoming England manager Thomas Tuchel.
Tuchel is set to take charge of the Three Lions on January 1, and the pair enjoyed a strong relationship during their brief time together at Bayern.
Speaking on Tuchel following his appointment earlier this month, Kane insisted Tuchel is the best man for the job.
‘I was not expecting it,’ Kane told ITV. ‘I worked with Thomas last year and had a really good relationship with him and expected him to go back to club football but I was pleasantly surprised.
‘He was a big part of me going to Bayern Munich. He is an all-round great person and the sense he will bring a lot of energy and passion to the team
‘You have to try and pick the best coach to win a major tournament and we are at that stage now. The only step is to win and Thomas brings a winning mentality. Especially at tournaments, something he excels in.
‘Tactically, he is one of the best managers there is. He had a certain way at Bayern but that was different to Chelsea so it will be interesting to see how he sees us. Tactically he has an amazing brain and he understands all the small things which matter.’
