European football’s governing body has been called for further action as Russian-owned oil company Gazprom is set to return to the limelight.

Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine back in 2022, Gazprom was dropped as the official sponsor for UEFA’s prize competition, the Champions League, with Russian clubs also banned from competing.

The two bodies had been partnered for a decade, but after a year away from football fans’ screens, Gazprom’s name and logo are set to return.

The Champions League is back for another season as Europe’s elite prepare to battle it out on the biggest stage in club football.

Manchester City are out to retain their status as European champions, while cross-city rivals United face a daunting curtain-raiser against Bayern Munich.

Arsenal return to the Champions League following a six-year absence and Newcastle rejoin the top table for the first time since 2003 as they look to qualify from the toughest group of the lot.
